Court Complex for Adentan

The Chief Justice has asked the Member of Parliament for Adentan Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah and the Adentan Municipal Assembly to judiciously use the portion of the Common Fund allocated to the Judicial Service to fast track the completion of the Adentan Court Complex.

Her Ladyship Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo made the call when she visited the District and Circuit Courts in Adentan and Tema as part of her three-day tour of Courts in the Greater Accra Region.

She was not happy that the current Court shares the same building with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), National Board for Small Scale Industries, (NBSSI), and the Rural Enterprises Programme (REP). In this case, the Judge is made to walk through people before accessing the courtroom because his chambers is on a different floor from the court room, a situation the Chief Justice described as “just not acceptable”.

The Court Complex when completed will have six court rooms, two each for District, Circuit and High Courts, and will speed up work at the various Courts. Her Ladyship appealed to the Assembly to consider the use of solar panels for the Court Complex. The MP, and the District Coordinating Director, Madam Felicia Dapaah, who joined the Chief Justice on her tour of the construction site to inspect progress of work, both promised to ensure that the Court Complex is completed early for the District Court to move in.

Meanwhile the Judicial Service and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) are considering pulling down the structure on the construction site for the Court Complex, because the project had been stalled for nearly 30 years. Briefing the Chief Justice on her tour of Courts in Tema, the Assembly said the demolishing will make way for the construction of a new Court Complex which will house all District, Circuit and High Courts in Tema.
