5. Brief Information on Public Complaints & Court Inspectorate Unit (PCCIU) and Public Relations & Complaints Unit (PRCU)

The Judiciary/Judicial Service in 2003 established a special Unit under the Office of the Chief Justice with the core mandate to receive and deal with complaints related to Judges & Magistrates of the Judiciary and staff of the Judicial Service. The scope of the Unit was widened and upgraded from Petitions and Complaint Unit to Public Complaints and Court Inspectorate Unit (PCCIU) in 2005.

In 2014, two offices of the PCCIU were established in the Ashanti and Western Regions to receive complaints from the two regions and beyond. However, these offices had the extra responsibility of performing the public relations function, and hence renamed the Public Relations & Complaints Unit (PRCU).

The PRCU has two main functions:

  • Receives, processes and deals with complaints (and refers to Head Office in Accra where necessary)
  • Conducts public relations activities.
