NEW HIGH COURT JUDGES & MAGISTRATES SWORN IN
Presenting them with their instruments of office, Chief Justice Wood reminded them that the oaths required them to discharge their duties without fear or favour and uphold the constitution of the Republic.

She urged them to live above reproach because with those solemn promises made in public without any coercion from any quarter, they should not be surprised that the same public would justifiably subject their work and conduct to intense scrutiny, demand transparency and hold them accountable for all that would emanate from their judgments.

Mrs. Justice Wood described the ceremony as the first in the history of the judiciary that such a large number of judges were being sworn in to take up duty at the High Court, saying “This is because Ghana is passionately committed to providing for its citizens an efficient and speedy system of justice delivery.”

According to her, Ghanaians had a legitimate expectation that the judges would contribute significantly to the building of a just, free and democratic nation. She therefore asked the lawyers entering the Judiciary for the first time to bring their rich and diverse backgrounds to bear on it.

The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Mr Kwame Osei Prempeh, said the duty of judges had been made more onerous owing to the entrenchment of the rule of law.
