NINE APPEAL COURT JUDGES SWORN IN
The President administered the Oath of Allegiance and Secrecy and the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Georgina Wood, administered the Judicial Oath.

President Kufuor asked the judges to take into consideration integrity and unity of the state. “Ghana expects you to discharge your functions with candour, circumspection and commitment to development of the country without bias or fear,” he stated. The judges are Mr. Justice Paul Gyaesayor, Mrs Justice Irismay Brown, Mr. Justice Wisdom Herbet Addo, Mr. Justice Victor Ofoe and Mr. Justice Bobena Adoe Acquaye.

The rest are Mr. Justice Francis Korbieh, Mr. Justice Emmanuel Kwami Ayebi, Mr. Justice Clement Jackson Honyenuga and Mr. Justice Kwasi Nkrumah Aduma Osei.

The President urged them to interpret the law without being too philosophical as if the individual could enjoy their rights outside the state.

He said taking the oath to uphold the integrity of the state by the justices implied that they had to interpret the law with some understanding of the political organisation of the state.

He said the justices should keep their word on the oath of secrecy which they had taken and be mindful that any violation of the oath would mean that they were taking steps to undo the state system.

“I urge you to discharge your duties on your oath, respecting the integrity of the state and working within your consciences so that you will evolve the institutions of the state,” he stated.

President Kufuor advised the justices to comport themselves and discharge their duties with dedication and distinction so that they could earn further promotions in future.
