CHIEF JUSTICE TO LEAD DELEGATION TO 10TH MARITIME SEMINAR FOR JUDGES IN NIGERIA
The invitation was extended to the Hon. Chief Justice when a three-man delegation of officials of the Ghana and Nigeria Shippers’ Councils paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice in her office in Accra on Thursday, 3rd April ’08. The invitation letter, which was delivered by Mr. Hassan Bello, Director of the Legal Department of the Nigeria Shippers Council, was a confirmation of an earlier one extended to the Chief Justice from the Nigerians during the first Maritime Seminar held in Accra in October 2007.

The seminar has the objective of updating judges’ knowledge on contemporary developments in international maritime laws and conventions and equipping them appropriately with how to cope with, and respond to, the dynamism of the international maritime industry.

Chief Justice Wood will deliver a goodwill message at the seminar.

Receiving the invitation letter, Chief Justice Wood thanked Mr. Bello for coming personally to Ghana to deliver the letter. She said it was the first time that a sister African country was inviting her to such high level gathering. She added that the meeting would give her an opportunity to interact with colleague judges of Nigeria, visit their superior and specialised courts and establish co-operation between the Ghanaian and Nigerian Judiciaries.

The two other members of the delegation were Mr. Emmanuel Martey, deputy Chief Executive, and Nana Agyekum Gyamera, Public Relations Officer, both of the Ghana Shippers’ Council.
