CHIEF JUSTICE WOOD IS PATRON OF SAWLA
Her Ladyship Chief Justice Georgina Wood has accepted
to become one of the two international patrons of the South African
Women Lawyers Association (SAWLA) following an invitation from the organization.
The other patron is Mrs. Mary Robinson, former United Nations High Commissioner
for Human Rights.
The key roles that have been identified for the patrons
include the following:
• To advise the organization on how best to achieve
its mission
• To arbitrate when conflict arises within the organization
• To take leadership of the organization in case of resignation
or death of any Board member
• To act as an ambassador for the organization
• To meet regularly with the Executive Committee of the organization.
SAWLA is a networking, dialogue and advocacy forum for
South African women lawyers established in May 2006.
