INTRODUCTORY REMARKS

I am deeply grateful to the organizers for the opportunity extended to me to be a part of this ceremony marking the opening of the New Year School 2010. First, may I use this occasion, to acknowledge the commendable efforts of the Institute of Adult Education, now Institute of Continuing Education, here at the University of Ghana for sustaining this programme till today and providing the opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to brainstorm on issues of national importance. Creating an open platform for such deliberations, affords an opportunity for stocktaking and a renewal and regeneration of minds as we begin another year with its manifold challenges and opportunities.
